This grant will finance technical assistance programmes and training activities for developing and least developed countries as well as economies in transition. The aim is to better adapt their practices and laws to WTO rules and disciplines, improve the implementation of their obligations and enhance the exercise of their membership rights.
“I welcome this new contribution which demonstrates Germany's continuous support to help developing countries in benefiting fully from the multilateral trading system” declared WTO Director General Pascal Lamy.
German Ambassador Reinhard Schweppe stated “Germany has continuously supported developing countries in increasing their trading capacity, finding new markets and trading opportunities and taking part in the global economy. Trade can be used as tool for growth and poverty reduction”.
